Moulin Rouge Creative Expressions Special Issue 4 From the center stage of Moulin Rouge comes the fabulously designed diagonally pieced embroidered quilt by Jenny and Simon Haskins. Color seduces the eye and excites the senses with this richly designed quilt featuring black velvet combined with read and black silk, embellished with rich red roses, bows and gold lattice. The rose and bow designs are intricately embroidered to form a perfect wreath in the center of each block, which in turn is bordered with red silk, embroidered in a continuous border design. Large triangles featuring red roses and bow design are used to square up the blocks, before adding the borders of repeat roses and gold lattice on all four sides. An abundance of little pillows gives the reader a selection of color stories from which to choose in making their own Moulin Rouge quilt should they choose not to use those used in Jenny's and Simon's quilt. Why stop at a quilt, they added the perfect Moulin Rouge lamp complete with glass beading, black feathers and the richness of the Moulin Rouge quilt embroidery to complete the sensual feel to their story. Come to the Cabaret where they embellished a pair of patent shoes and matching red satin clutch bag with matching embroidery designs and colors as with the quilt - perfect for that special night out. Kerrie Hay from Bernina created the whole bridal trousseau, bustier, knickers, garter, shoes, handbag and ring pillow all using a gorgeous lace design which is given away. Robyn Cawdron, from Elna contributed a pair of wedged sandals and bag in summer colors of hot pink, burnt orange and yellow for that casual day out, all decorated with an exclusive free Elna design.
There is a boudoir pillow, designed by Robyn Wilson for RNK Distributing using their wonderful Quilt Magic light weight fusible batting and Hoop Magic sticky stabilizer combined with the magic of silk, beading, quilting and embroidery (design free to make this pillow) creates an irresistible pillow in colors that melt into your eyes. The clever creative team - Regula and Bernadette from Melann's Fabrics and Sewing Centre for Husqvarna Viking, have chosen dusty pink to create a wonderful bag, decorate matching pink suede boots, belt and velvet jeans themed with floral and lace embroidery designs to create a collection that any designer would be proud of. Again these girls, Regula and Bernadette have taken up the challenge for Pfaff creating a wonderful beach bag, featuring a water world theme for embroidery motifs and stitching to represent bubbles, along with shoes, beach towel and bikini and wrap for that perfect little miss in your life. Sharon Bammer, for Singer, chose after party (following the school formal) as a theme with green and rust silk and threads to create a perfect little "statement" bag made on the overlocker/serger with matching rosettes on the pearl rust shoes. An embroidered beaded neck choker, (designs free to make this choker) added to the theme with the embroidery being carried through to the bag and the colors carried through to the uniquely fringed scarf - the possibilities are endless. We hope you enjoy the elegance of the Creative Expressions' Special MOULIN ROUGE and the inspiration behind this beautiful Pride publication indulging in the sheer creativity that is Jenny and Simon Haskins. Designs used in Moulin Rouge are from: Floral Rhapsody, Designer Neck Ties, Victorian Scrolls & Curlicues and designs on the Moulin Rouge CD.
These tools were also used: Cut A Round tool (19in-6in) and Block Marker by The Sewing Revolution. Moulin Rouge 23605 $16.95 Click on image at left for contents view

Creative Expressions Issue 1 Jenny Haskins is editing a new magazine! She let me know and sent me a photo a month ago or so, and I got all excited about it! She even asked if I had something I wanted to contribute. It's going to combine quilting and machine embroidery and special techniques, like some of the things Jenny is famous for, and creative ideas taken from the elements of the quilts that can be turned into unique projects ranging from pretty cushions to practical handbags - and everything else you could possibly dream of! Jenny sent us a preview copy and it has wonderful projects and infinite inspiration. Instructions and beautiful photos take you through creating the center of the Beyond Color Purple Quilt (design cd shown below) and the first ten blocks. Also shown are a vest, cushion, tray, and tablecloth using the same designs and techniques. The second issue will have the remainder of the blocks and finishing instructions.
