Louisa May Alcott: Quilts of Her Life, Her Work, Her Heart Authored by quilt historian Terry Clothier Thompson, this book looks at the Civil War through the eyes of Louisa May Alcott. Louisa is best known for writing children's stories and Little Women, but she was also very involved with the anti-slavery movement, rights for women, and served as a Civil War nurse. The heart of the book is the "Louisa" quilt. In this quilt there are nine "cameo" blocks that tell the story of Louisa and her family's life in New England. Also, as part of the quilt, there are six pieced blocks from the Civil War era that can be used to make soldiers quilts. Along with the "Louisa" quilt, the book contains patterns for three authentic soliders quilts and another magnificent appliqued quilt called "Concord, Mass". Product Details: Softcover, Color, 9" x 11", 88 pages. 36178 $19.95 Click on image at left for alternate view

Dear Jane Calling all lovers of quilts, patterns and quilt history! In Dear Jane, a twentieth century quilting teacher meets a nineteenth century quiltmaker. Brenda Manges Papadakis has lovingly recreated the two hundred twenty five patterns from the celebrated Jane A. Blakely Stickle quilt. Accompanying the patterns are a remarkable series of letters from Brenda to Jane, drawing us into the historical context of Jane's achievement and connecting her to our quilting lives today. Among the patterns and letters you will find a dozen quilts from the 1990's, all inspired by Jane's supreme example of quiltmaking artistry in 1863. Brenda's meticulous research has been a devoted labor of love, not only for a splendid quilt but also for the woman who created it. You will be moved by her letters to Jane, and enlightened about the times in which she lived.
